Background & Experience

Jessica Legan has been preparing international tax returns for over 15 years. She began her career as a Tax Resolution Representative with the IRS, working to resolve client issues face-to-face. In this role, she gained valuable insight into the internal workings of the IRS, including audit techniques, ITIN processing, notice resolution, and much more. After leaving the IRS, she spent two years working in the international tax services office at BKD, LLP, one of the Top Ten firms in the US. She learned about international tax equalization programs, and working on the corporate side of expat tax life.

After taking five years to work as a Plant Controller in the private sector, she dove headfirst into expat taxes by taking a role with Greenback Expat Tax Services. In this self-guided role, she worked one-on-one with individuals all over the world, working with clients in over 42 countries. This role has required daily research and strategizing for unique issues involving tax treaties, FATCA, foreign companies, retirement and so much more. It was also in this role that Jessica took the initiative to become a Certifying Acceptance Agent, which allows her to certify original documentation for ITIN application purposes.

Jessica loves working with expats! Catching up with clients on their unique adventures each year is her favorite part of the work. She believes transparency, honesty and good communication make a good relationship. She currently resides in Indiana with her family on an active working horse and cattle farm.
